2008 Mar 11 | Hazard: The aluminum rings on the sling carriers can bend or break. This can cause the fabric to slip through the rings and infants to fall out of the carrier. Incidents/Injuries: Ellaroo has received four reports of the rings bending and two reports of rings breaking. No injuries have been reported. Description: This recall includes Ellaroo Ring Sling baby carriers with item numbers 2101 and 2102 printed on the outside of the product box. The Ellaroo Ring Sling has a fabric carrier with two aluminum rings that is worn by the user to carry an infant up to 35 pounds. The carriers are sold in mahogany, mango stone, brasilia and malay color prints. Only sling carriers with lot numbers 03/07 and 07/04 printed on a label, under the size label, inside the Ring Sling are included in the recall. Sold at: Juvenile product and department stores nationwide and online, including BabiesRUs.com, from June 2007 through February 2008 for about $100. 2008 Feb 6 | Children’s Hooded Sweatshirts Recalled by Seventy Two Inc. Due to Strangulation Hazard; Sold Exclusively at Nordstrom Stores. Hazard: The garments have a drawstring through the hood, which can pose a strangulation hazard to children. In February 1996, CPSC issued guidelines (pdf) to help prevent children from strangling or getting entangled on the neck and waist by drawstrings in upper garments, such as jackets and sweatshirts. Incidents/Injuries: None reported. Description: This recall involves the Bonafide Love children’s hooded sweatshirts. The sweatshirts are reversible and come in two styles. The hearts and stars style is green and in the front has a heart surrounded by pink stars. On the reverse, it is hot pink with light pink dots. The Robots style is gray with drawings of robots and pink hearts. On the reverse, it has a zebra-like pattern with gray and black stripes. “Bonafide Love” is printed on a label sewn into the collar. Sold exclusively at: Nordstrom retail stores nationwide from November 2007 through December 2007 for about $40. Manufactured in: China Remedy: Consumers should immediately remove the drawstrings to eliminate the hazard or return the sweatshirts to Nordstrom or to Seventy Two for a full refund. 2008 Jan 31 | Girls' Hooded Jackets with Drawstrings Sold Exclusively at Marshalls Stores Recalled by Apollo Jeans Due to Strangulation Hazard. Description: The recalled velour jackets have a drawstring at the neck. The jackets are hooded, zip up the front, have a front pocket, and were sold with matching velour pants. The word “DIVA” with rhinestones is displayed across the front of the jackets. They were sold in children’s sizes small, medium, large, extra-large and 4, 5, 6, and 6X and came in red, blue and beige colors. “Apollo Active Wear” and either style number 5033gk or 5033gg are printed on the jackets’ neck tag. Sold exclusively at: Marshalls Stores nationwide from August 2007 through November 2007 for about $15. Manufactured in: Korea Remedy: Consumers should immediately remove the drawstring from the jacket’s hood to eliminate the hazard, or return it for a full refund to either the place of purchase or Apollo Jeans. Walmart Recalls Chinese Made Flip Flops. A Texas woman says her feet started showing signs of a rash about three weeks after she started wearing the sandals in July. As the scarring worsened into the exact pattern of the flip flop straps, she filed a complaint with Wal-mart. Wal-mart says it will now do more testing on the flip flops. The government acted after the Target TV programme claimed that fabrics in children's clothes contained 900 times the UN's safe level of the chemical. Hazard: The snap closures on the outerwear jackets contain excessive amounts of lead, which poses a lead poisoning hazard. Description: This recall involves boy's outerwear jackets with a Carter's-brand logo on the front. The jackets were sold in toddler and boy's sizes. Toddler sizes range from 2T to 4T. Boy's sizes include S, M and L. The outerwear jackets were sold in charcoal, navy and red.
